Through one platform, with access to advanced security features, you can now manage and secure hundreds of Oracle enterprise apps—and custom apps built on Oracle Mobile Cloud Service (OMCS). Our partnership with Oracle lends the simplicity and security of AirWatch and VMware Workspace ONE to one of the most common enterprise app names in the Apple App Store.

Enterprise IoT becomes reality.

We also announced a new way to get Internet of Things (IoT) projects off the ground. VMware Pulse IoT Center is designed to be the &#rsquo;nervous system for enterprise IoT,&#rdquo; said PCWorld, with AirWatch to manage devices and VMware vRealize Operations to monitor infrastructure.

IoT devices must be connected, secured and managed, said VMware CEO Pat Gelsinger on stage at Dell EMC World.

AppConfig Community Membership Soars

Our joint mission was simple: to make enterprise app configuration and security less complicated for developers by expanding the use of OS-native standards. In doing so, we&#rsquo;re collectively accelerating mobile deployments for the enterprise.

The benefit of using the native operating system (OS) standards of Android and iOS for app configuration and security is that those standards are consistent across EMM solutions and apps, instead of proprietary to a particular EMM or app vendor.

This simplifies things for app developers, who can use one approach across EMM solutions, rather than create separate apps for each. This also reduces costs and simplifies deployment for IT organizations, who can use one approach across the apps they deploy to their end users, rather than separate approaches for each app vendor. Finally, the real winners are the end users, who can enjoy a seamless out-of-the-box experience for the apps that help them get their work done. Now that&#rsquo;s what we call a win-win-win.

The word is spreading. Nick McQuire, vice president of enterprise research at CCS Insight, recently commented:

“The AppConfig Community has brought together many members of the EMM industry to drive developer awareness about the power of native OS standards for app configuration and security. The momentum of the Community since its founding in 2016 is a testament to the value of this open approach for both ISVs and IT organizations.&#rdquo;

One year after launching, the AppConfig Community membership base has grown dramatically:

  • From 60 to 90 independent software vendors (ISVs)
  • From 4 to 19 EMM providers
  • From 160 to more than 1,400 individual developers
  • From 1 to 2 operating systems (including iOS upon launching with expansion to Android in May of 2016)

These metrics and others are detailed in the AppConfig Community Annual Report webcast, available here for your viewing pleasure.

To help IT get the word out to its users, we created an email template with instructions on how to update their apps. Our customers can find the template in myAirWatch.

It is critical that all users update their iOS business apps before installing iOS 10.3. Non-compatible applications will not be fully supported in iOS 10.3, and this may cause devices to be incorrectly recognized as compromised. If you have compliance policies in place to prevent compromised devices, actions may be inappropriately taken against users&#rsquo; devices.

If you used the AirWatch SDK to develop an internal application, you need to update the app to utilize version 5.9.3.2. And if you wrapped any applications, you will need to re-wrap those applications using the updated AirWatch app wrapping service.

Here&#rsquo;s what IT admins need to do to prepare your apps for iOS 10.3 compatibility:

  • Update AirWatch SDK: The 5.9.3.2 version of the SDK is now available at myAirWatch. Our customers can find step-by-step directions on updating their applications in the knowledgebase.
  • Re-wrap applications: The updated version of the AirWatch app wrapping service is now available via the console.

iOS 10 will not fully support non-compatible applications. This might cause impacted devices to be incorrectly flagged as compromised. If you have compliance policies in place to prevent compromised devices, actions may be inappropriately taken against users&#rsquo; devices.

We have also made updated versions of our applications available in the Apple App Store. Your users will need to run the latest version to ensure they are compatible with iOS 10.3. Look out for our next post for more details!
