Announcing the My VMware Beta Community

All the news seems to be around My VMware as we approach launch. Today, I'm happy to announce our My VMware Beta Community. This new community will provide a public forum for beta participants to ask questions, network, and provide feedback about My VMware.

My VMware is of course our much talked about, integrated, self-service, account-based site that will transform your product license and support experience by simplifying and streamlining your organization's interactions with us.

The My VMware beta is a temporary (sandbox) environment which provides an opportunity for you to interact with, explore, and experience the new My VMware site.

If you have not heard about any of this yet, or are looking for every new detail you can on it, we’ve just produced a 2 page, My VMware Datasheet (pdf). In it you’ll find how we’re simplifying many of the ways that you interact with us on the web. My VMware is Simplified, Streamlined, and Flexible. And it’s all in one place. You asked for it, and we listened!

VMWare: New File SR Page Now Fully Live

File an SR pageToday we have completed the roll-out of a brand new web page for filing your support requests for your VMware products. Over the past year we have been carefully studying the way this page was being used by our customers.

Here’s some of what we learned:

  • Most of you spent a lot of time searching for answers online before requesting help - upwards of an hour on Google, kb.vmware.com and the Communities
  • About half of you called in rather than use our web-based self-service portal
  • ~85% of you did not use the embedded Search bar on the old page, but…
  • Of the ~15% of you who did, most of you did find an answer
  • Most of the cases you reported we have solved before and captured the fix in a KB

Help Yourself!

The first thing you’ll notice is our new way of guiding you through a search using tag-cloud-driven interface. The idea is that with a few selections, you can quickly isolate the section of our content most relevant to you.

New File SR page

If you decide to use the tag cloud, each selection (and subsequent selection) refines the cloud and the results. Of course, you can always go the traditional route, and type in your query - our auto-complete will pipe up with suggestions.

We’re Listening

We want to hear from you, so please feel free to let us know what you like or what you would change in this thread in our Communities.

New to the VMware Toolbar

We have a couple of new icons on the VMware Toolbar rolling out today we can tell you about.

There is now a translate button that you can use to translate any page you are browsing to whatever language you prefer. The widget can also translate text that you type in (if you need to make a quick reply for instance).

The second icon is a link to the VMware Support Mobile App, very handy for accessing KB content while your in a noisy environment and don't have your laptop with you!

If you haven't tried the toolbar, you can download it here: http://www.vmwaretoolbar.com
